Sailing on Oberon Dam

RACE NOTICE: OBERON REGATTA 18-19th JANUARY 2014

It has been an eventful year for our small club with some personal changes afoot, and also the opening up of the Oberon Dam to recreational canoes, kayaks and electric boating etc in October of this year.  We don’t anticipate this will affect our upcoming regatta in any way, and it raises other possibilities for the club to consider in the future.(Note there is still no camping officially allowed on the foreshore unfortunately)

Our 2013 regatta will be held in line with previous years, but we may be a little short in helpers on the weekend for manning the starts, and sausage cooking etc so if anyone would be willing to pitch in we would most appreciate it!

We are very excited about the water levels rising at Oberon Dam, and being able to get our boats back on the water after a year off last summer when dam levels fell to around 8%.  They are currently at 48% and rising  as at the end of December 2010.

We are organising our annual regatta for the weekend of 22/23 January 2011.

Our March 2009 BBB regatta was a non-sailing disaster as far as the actual sailing and competition side goes.  We had very few boats turn up for the weekend, and even less wind!!  We extend a terrific thanks to the travelling stalwarts from the Carcoar club John Ford & Ash Johnson for always making the effort to come and support us.

Sunday particularly was such a still day that we could resist taking the camera around the water in the safety boat while we were gathering up the buoys for a few shots very hard to get on Oberon Dam as you are generally not allowed on the water unless you’re there sailing.

Dam level is about 14% capacity.

Bernie’s Birthday Bash

Every year for the lat 4 or 5 years, we have held a regatta on the last weekend in March to celebrate Bernie’s Birthday.  Last year he turned 50, and this year, we’ll be holding a regatta for his 51st birthday.

bbb09-regatta-notice

We are hoping to get a few boats along this year (last year we only had 2 boats!! But we do allow that the weather was attrocious – it was pouring rain all weekend!!).  We pray the weather holds, and the winds come strong and steady, and we make just enough money to cover our insurance for the year (we’re not greedy!!).
